May 28 11:29 2014

rainKolkata, Wednesday, May 28 – It was a huge disappointment for the die-hard cricket followers across the nation who were keenly looking forward to witness first semi-final match between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The first qualifier was abandoned yesterday due to rain. The match has been rescheduled for today and it will take place on the same ground at 4 pm onwards.

Expecting a good contest between KXIP, who have the golden opportunity to be into the IPL final for the first time, and KKR, who won the winner’s trophy a couple of years ago, spectators were waiting for their turn to enter into the stadium. But they got nothing more than disappointment as heavy rainfall on Tuesday postponed clash between the two squads to May 28. However, they breathed a sigh of relief as soon as they got to know match between  Kings XI Punjab vs. Kolkata Knight Riders can be watched another day using the same ticket what they have purchased for yesterday’s game.

George Bailey boys have shown immaculate performance in the ongoing tournament. Registering victory over the opponents in 11 matches, KXIP lead the Indian Premier League point table with 22 points. They faced defeat in just three matches out of 14. The potential ‘playing 11’ of the Kings XI Punjab eye glory and this is the reason why the team doesn’t want to leave any stone unturned to emerge as a winner in the first playoff. There is no scope for mistake. Though the squad which will lose today will get a chance to compete the winner of qualifier 2, yet both KKR and KXIP don’t want to fall in a situation where they have to play another game in order to book a berth into the final match, which will take place on June 1.

Audience will get the double dose of fun today as Chennai Super Kings will also take on Mumbai Indians, who lately knocked Rajasthan Royals out by chasing humongous total of 190 runs in 14.3 overs, at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. CSK’s record in the history of IPL matches has been brilliant as they won IPL season 3 and 4 and were runner-up for three times. On the other hand, the ‘men in blue’ are the defending champions and lost against CSK in the 2010 finale. Great contests are about to take place just after a few hours that will decide who will directly reaches into the final and whose journey in IPL 7 will come to an end on Wednesday.

All in all, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that fever of 20-20 over game has gripped the entire nation. Keeping in mind the popularity of participating squads, both Brabourne Stadium and Eden Gardens are anticipated to be jam packed. Supporters will be cheering for their favorite teams. Undoubtedly, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders are having a tad extra advantage over Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab, respectively, as qualifier 1 and 2 will take place at their home grounds. Let us wait and watch who comes at the front foot by defeating opponent from a good margin.
