Bangladesh, England Eye Win in Final Blow to Seal Series

October 12 15:22 2016

pitchNew Delhi, Wednesday, October 12 – Mashrafe Mortaza led side is looking forward to end 3-match Test series against England with a win. Who among Imrul Kayes, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Mushfiqur Rahim, Nasir Hossain, Sabbir Rahman, Shafiul Islam, Al-Amin Hossain, Shakib Al Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Taijul Islam, Tamim Iqbal and Taskin Ahmed will be picked in the Playing XI and who are to be left will get clear after some time.

England ODI squad under the captaincy of Jos Buttler will also expect to do the same as a defeat here will mean losing the series. Hopes are up from Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Jake Ball, Sam Billings, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Steven Finn, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood,  Ben Stokes, James Vince and David Willey.

The tournament became interesting after Bangladesh defeated England, who were leading the series 1-0 by winning the opening ODI at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on October 7, by 34 runs in second match that took place on Sunday, October 9.  In a crowded stadium in Bangladesh recently, the home supporters got more than a few opportunities to cheer louder for the reason that the hosts displayed some amazing play by defending a small target of 238 runs. 75 runs from Mahmdullah and 44 from Mashrafe Mortaza proved useful. It was England’s poor judgment over bowling ability of Bangladesh that let them see batting collapse. Four wickets by Mortaza and three by Ahmed set base for the victory of the home side. Despite losing the toss, the home squad accepted the invitation to bat first with belief on their capabilities. Even though it was not done in a finer way,  they managed to restrict England at a total of 204 runs.

This wasn’t that simple as the tourists scored 309 runs in the 1st ODI what Bangladesh failed to chase, losing 10 wickets on 288 runs. The way four 4s and sixes were hit in the England innings, it confirmed that they are in no mood for a slow start on the tour of Bangladesh. Stokes, Duckett and Buttler certainly had immense share in squad’s success in that game. Hopes soared from them in future tournaments as well. Stokes’ bombardment of 101 runs in 100 balls with eight 4s and four sixes at the right time lent a hand to his team stay in the front. All those who were waiting to see England side perform jumped in joy post seeing Buttler’s fearless play as he scored 63 runs in just 38 balls. But each game is different and this got proved when England were unexpectedly defeated by Bangladesh in the next match. With one victory each in the pockets of the hosts and guests, the final ODI at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong has turned decisive.

Opening partnership needs to be strong no matter whoever comes to bat first. Early breakthrough will be eyed to gain grip in the contest as this may help a group gain foothold. Falling short of expectations is not going to work at all. Striking knocks by the players who hit the ball hard and timely taken catches can make the difference. Bangladesh may let England feel the heat as they did early by surprisingly defeating them in the match that was a do or die situation for them. Since not so much time left for the game to begin, all eyes are struck on how things go today. As per latest available reports, England have won the toss and decided to field first. Here is to mention that England are aware with the kind of potential housed by Bangladesh players. They did mistake of giving them a room to shine a few days ago that made them face defeat in a game that could have easily be won as the target wasn’t big. Some lessons from previous mistakes are supposed to be learnt but by the end of the day only it will be
apparent who shines and misses the chance of being victorious and winning series 2-1.
